Team effort: Cops find missing 9-year-old Galloway, NJ, girl in 90 minutes
Here's an example of some amazing police work in South Jersey: a team of law enforcement officers found a missing 9-year-old from Galloway in 90 minutes.
Child Goes Missing in Galloway Twp., NJ
The Galloway Township Police Department says at about 5:00 Tuesday afternoon, April 30th, their officers were called to the Smithville section of the township for a report of a missing juvenile.
Officers at the scene quickly learned that the child had walked away from her home about ten minutes before they arrived.
Galloway officers, detectives, and a K-9 unit began a search of the area while the following agencies joined the effort:
- Absecon Police Department and their drone unit
- Galloway Township Office of Emergency Management
- New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit
- Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit
In addition, several off-duty county and federal officers and numerous citizens offered their help, too.
9-year-old Found Safe
After a search that lasted about 90 minutes, the child was located in a wooded area off Quail Hill Boulevard.
Police say the child was safe, uninjured, and returned home to her family.
Galloway Township Police Chief Richard D. Barber said in a statement,
When a child is missing, even for a short period of time, it is extremely stressful for a family. It was wonderful to see so many members of the public come out and offer their assistance with locating this child. It is a true testament of the sense of community we have here in Galloway Township.
