Fire officials tell The Press of Atlantic City that a 31-foot sailboat ran aground late Friday night in foggy conditions and ended up in an uninhabited area on the north end of Brigantine Island.

Using a pick-up truck to tow their inflatable rescue boat, firefighters reached the scene around 10 p.m.

They deployed the rescue boat and positioned it beside the sailboat, and were soon able to remove the two people in the boat.

Authorities say the two were sailing from New York City to Atlantic City when the sailboat's GPS navigational system failed. The boaters' names were not disclosed.
