An 88-year-old woman from Atlantic City who was rescued from a submerged vehicle following an accident this past weekend has died.

Atlantic City Police say Ung Hoa Mui died Wednesday as result of injuries sustained in the crash on the morning of October 6th.

Authorities say the collision began after a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Danielle Shenk of Galloway lost control, striking a center divider on Route 40, then struck the vehicle in the lane next to her. That vehicle left the roadway, rolled over, and came to rest in a marsh. The driver, a 52-year-old man from Atlantic City, and front seat passenger, a 77-year-old woman from Atlantic City, suffered minor injuries. Those two people, who escaped from the submerged vehicle, told officers that Ung Hoa Mui was still inside the vehicle. She was found with her upper body under water, not breathing, and had no pulse. Officers pulled her to safety and she was taken to ARMC-City.

Shenk has been summons for reckless driving and use of a wireless telephone in a moving vehicle. Additional charges are pending the outcome of an investigation.
