World War II veteran Vito Perillo pulled one of the biggest election upsets that Tinton Falls has ever seen.

The 93-year-old underdog of Monmouth County, who served with the U.S. Navy, defeated incumbent Mayor Gerald M. Turning. Perillo took home 53 percent of votes where as the current mayor fell a tad short at 46 percent.

Perillo said he went door-to-door for his campaign, wearing out 2 pairs of shoes. Obviously, his hard work paid off!
