Well this seems like a stretch, doesn’t it? (Sorry, sorry, I’m trying to delete it.)

The Hollywood Reporter says that Warners is looking to extended its DC Movie Universe in the most literal way humanly possible: With a movie about Plastic Man, DC’s bendy, stretchy, ever-pliable superhero:

Up-and-coming screenwriter Amanda Idoko has been hired to pen the script for what will be a comedic action-adventure for Warner Bros. Bob Shaye, the former co-founder of New Line-turned-producer will executive produce.

Plastic Man is a former crook named Eel O’Brien who is transformed into a plastic man by a bunch of chemicals. He can morph his body into almost anything or anyone, and as he’s typically portrayed, he is constantly cracking jokes. He’s like the Joker if the Joker was a nice guy and also could become a human-sized jackhammer when the situation required.

The perfect Plastic Man would have been Jim Carrey in his ’90s heyday. He would have barely even needed special effects to play the part. (The Mask is essentially Plastic Man with a bit more edge.) But there are plenty of funny dudes in Hollywood now who could play the part. It does seem like a no brainer for some kind of adaptation (although given Plastic Man’s relatively small-scale adventures, he might be better suited to TV than the big screen).

The next DC movie is Aquaman, which opens in theaters on December 21.
