For the past several days we’ve been hearing about a nasty winter storm that will bring howling winds and the potential for more than a foot of snow in the Garden State this weekend.

Now that the storm is finally approaching, some New Jerseyans are expressing concerns about possible power outages, snow drifts and flooding at the Jersey Shore, while others say there's no reason for all the hype.

“You know, they did this last year and we got one inch when the storm of storms, or the storm of the century was going to come – no it’s going to be snow but we’re used to snow; two days and it will be fine,” said Bob from Ewing, while shopping in Mercer County.

He added the day after the storm we’ll have some cleanup and “the day after that everything will be back to normal. "It’s New Jersey for crying out loud - people see one snowflake and they panic so, nah, it’s going to be fine.”

Heather from Plainsboro nodded in agreement.

“I think it’s hype. We haven’t had much snow yet so hopefully it’s all hype and we won’t get that much again,” she said.

Her husband Joe added, “I’m not exactly worried. We’ve had snow before so worst case we shovel out and have a weekend inside with Netflix.”

Another shopper said all of the reports are just "overkill."

“We as a people always get excited, especially for the first snow, so yeah I think it’s overkill, everyone piles up on shovels - what happened to the shovels from last year,” she said.

Ralph from Hamilton said despite all of the warnings, New Jerseyans will be just fine when all is said and done.

“It’s not a big deal,” he insisted. “It’s not going to be the end of the world, no, never is. We’ve survived before we’ll survive again, we’ll just deal with it.”

Another shopper said she found all the talk about the storm boring.

“I’m in the middle of moving to a new house, so I am excited about that,” she said.

A woman standing nearby said “I think we’re probably going to get snow but maybe not as much as they’re forecasting.”

Joe from Trenton seemed to find the whole storm question ridiculous.

“I don’t really care," he said. "It’s winter time, it’s going to snow, no surprise."
