Hamilton Township Police are searching for a truck that struck a wire on the Black Horse Pike yesterday afternoon that lead to the road being closed for ten hours.

Police responded to the intersection of Route 40 and the Black Horse Pike just before 2:00 Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report of a crash. An investigation revealed an orange-colored tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on Route 40 and was merging onto the Black Horse Pike when the top of the trailer hit a wire that was hanging across the road. The force of the impact caused a pole to split, sending power and utility lines crashing down to the road below. According to reports, the tractor trailer left the scene and was last seen going eastbound on Route 322.

The downed pole and wires caused the Black Horse Pike to be closed to ten hours, snarling traffic on area roadways. Atlantic City Electric, Verizon, Comcast, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation all worked to clear the scene. Utility work continues this morning.

Police are searching for the truck and the driver. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Hamilton Township Police at (609) 625-2700.
