Two people have been arrested on drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop Tuesday night in Atlantic City.

Atlantic City Police say they stopped a car at Indiana and Mediterranean Avenues around 9:45 Tuesday night after officers saw a person driving a car with tinted windows carelessly. Cops spoke to two people inside the car, identified as Omar Butcher and Nia Lovelace, both 25-years-old and from Atlantic City.

Officers say they smelled the odor of burnt marijuana in the vehicle and located a marijuana cigarette in the center console. A further investigation by ACPD detectives led to searches of the vehicle and a nearby residence. As a result, 110 bags of heroin and a stolen, loaded handgun were recovered. The gun had been reported stolen from Iowa earlier this year.

Both Butcher and Lovelace are facing a long list of charges, including two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 1000 feet of a school zone, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
