Atlantic City Sex Slavery Suspect Indicted for Human Trafficking
MAYS LANDING - A human trafficking defendant from Atlantic City, accused in September of forcing two women into prostitution through threats and drugs appears headed for trial.
On December 19, a grand jury in Mays Landing returned a four-count indictment against Tahir Gregory, 38, according to the office of Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner. Each charge is in the first degree, and punishable by 20 years to life in prison on conviction, with the provision that 20 years be served before parole hearings begin.
Investigators said that Gregory threatened both women with bodily harm, kept them drugged, and confiscated identification documents belonging to one of them.
The probe involved the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Unit, the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force and the Atlantic City Police Department.
The county's case is being conducted by Assistant Prosecutor Danielle Buckley. The Prosecutor's Office did not indicate whether Gregory has retained a lawyer.
Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
