Three Atlantic County employees scammed the state of hundreds of dollars in welfare benefits following Tropical Storm Irene, according to the county's acting prosecutor.

Jocelyn Roberts of Atlantic City, Rheba Lawrence of Pleasantville, and Janice Dorsey of Galloway have been charged with third-degree theft, punishable by up to five years in prison and $15,000 in fines.

The charges allege all three defendants wrongfully received emergency food stamp benefits after the storm. The benefits are administered through the Atlantic County Department of Family & Community Development, where all the defendants were employed.
