It now appears that a man who died at a Pleasantville shooting scene did not die of gunshot wounds.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner says one man died and another was shot in the face Saturday morning at 310 West Wright Street.

When Pleasantville Police responded to the home, they located a man with a gunshot wound to the face. They recovered a handgun in front of the house, says Tyner.

According to a new release:

Police surrounded the building and subsequently located James Roberts, 69, on the exterior stairs on the third floor. Roberts was deceased with a handgun located nearby.  Further investigation determined that he was indeed not shot as was initially reported at the start of the investigation on Saturday morning. He was pronounced deceased at 11:50 a.m. The medical examiner came to the scene and did not observe any visible injuries which could have caused the death. Roberts’ autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The victim was transported to AtlantiCare Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center and was able to speak with Detectives. The victim said Roberts shot him over a domestic dispute.  The victim was able to disarm Roberts and Roberts fled the area.  It is believed  the handgun recovered from the front of the residence was the weapon used by Roberts to shoot the victim.  It is not believed the second firearm recovered from the location where Roberts was found had been discharged.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
