Sources indicate that a body found in the Jersusalem Forest is likely that of missing Lakewood resident Aaron Sofer

The Jerusalem Post reports police called off their search Thursday after the discovery of what is believed to be the 23-year-old's body in the Ein Kerem section of the forest.

Former Lakewood Mayor Steven Langert also confirmed the reports as did United Hatzalah, an rescue and recovery organization involved in the search for the Yeshiva student.

Israeli Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld tweeted that forensics are at the scene of the discovery of the body tryingt to make a positive identity and determine  a cause of death.

A spokesman for the Sofer family told the Jerusalem Post they "do not wish to make any comments at this time."

The Where Is Aaron Sofer Facebook page reports he was found wearing his hat and jacket and may have been there for several days. Sofer appears to have fallen from a cliff according to sources close to the investigation.

Sofer went missing last Friday during a hike in the forest. A search led by Israeli Police has been underway for the past seven days.
