Camden County Inmates Train Puppies to Help New Jersey Veterans

Camden County Correctional Facility welcomes a new program where inmates train dogs to be service dogs for military veterans.

And it's the first of its kind in New Jersey.

The Department of Corrections has teamed up with One Love Animal Rescue so that dogs will find a forever home with a veteran. In return, the animals will help military veterans suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, or depression.

Dogs will live at the jail and train for 12 weeks with the inmates, from there the Office of Veteran Affairs will pair the dogs with its new owner.

Inmates are having a positive reaction to the new program. One inmate, Scott Ryan, tells the Courier-Post "the dog taught me to value life." Watch the video below:
