TRENTON — Jeremiah Monell, wanted for the murder of his wife, has been captured, New Jersey State Police announced Monday.

Monel had been on the run for two weeks after State Police allege he killed his estranged wife, Tara O'Shea-Watson, in their Lawrence (Cumberland County) home. Family and friends of O’Shea told 6ABC Action News that Monell slit her throat in front of their 12-year-old son. Authorities have not confirmed that account.

State Police announced the apprehension on Twitter but did not release any details of his arrest.

Jen Messick, a friend of O'Shea's, was in tears when told of Monell's arrest. "They caught him," Messick told Townsquare Media. "All I know is that they found in him in Folsom" behind a pizza shop.

Messick, who said she was a childhood friend of O'Shea's, said that O'Shea was laid to rest in a private service on Dec. 23. She said Monell had been served with divorce papers on the day police say he killed her.

O’Shea-Watson has three children — two of them, 12 and 3 years old, with Monell. Her other children are 15, 16 and 18 years old.

A reward of $3,500 had been offered for information leading to his capture.
