New Jersey 101.5

Calling it the ‘race that never was,’ today’s Quinnipiac University poll shows likely New Jersey voters give Gov. Chris Christie a 61 to 33 percent lead over his Democratic challenger State Sen. Barbara Buono.

The incumbent enjoyed a 64 to 31 percent lead in an Oct. 29 Quinnipiac survey.

In today’s poll, Christie leads 66 to 29 percent among men and 57 to 36 percent among women, 94 to 5 percent among Republicans and 64 to 29 percent among independent voters. He even gets 30 percent of Democrats, to Buono’s 64 percent.

“That weekend bus ride around the Garden State must have felt like a victory tour for Gov. Christopher Christie,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “Sen. Barbara Buono gave it a good New Jersey try, but she wasn’t stronger than the Christie Storm. Quinnipiac's final numbers say blow-out.”

New Jersey likely voters give Christie a 64 to 29 percent favorability, including 65 to 27 percent among independent voters. His favorability among Democrats is a negative 39 to 52 percent. Buono ends the campaign with a negative 27 to 32 percent favorability and 37 percent of voters who still don’t know enough about her to form an opinion.

“The only uncertainty is the State Legislature,” explained Carroll. “Christie talked up Republican candidates in the final days, but those legislative district lines were drawn for Democrats. With his appeal to independent voters, and even Democrats, Christie-for-President 2016 begins a few minutes after 8 o’clock tomorrow night.”

From Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,388 New Jersey likely voters in the election for governor, with a margin of error of +/- 2.6 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.
