Christie Speaks Out Against Libertarianism [VIDEO]

Governor Chris Christie spoke out against libertarianism during a panel discussion during a meeting of Republican governors in Aspen, Colorado.

Christie said that those who want to back off government surveillance programs should talk to the families of 9/11 victims.

“These esoteric, intellectual debates — I want them to come to New Jersey and sit across from the widows and the orphans and have that conversation. And they won’t, because that’s a much tougher conversation to have,” Christie said according to Politico.

He singled out Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) for not understanding the threat of terrorism.

“This strain of libertarianism that’s going through parties right now and making big headlines I think is a very dangerous thought,”said Christie. “You can name any number of people and (Paul is) one of them.”

Christie also pointed out the President Obama has made no changes to President George W.  Bush's terrorism policies. "And I mean practically nothing,” Christie said. “And you know why? Because they work.”

Libertarianism is a political belief that advocates little or no government involvement in peoples’ lives.

Paul fired back with a tweet on Friday morning.

“If Gov. Christie believes the constitutional rights and the privacy of all Americans are ‘esoteric,’ he either needs a new dictionary or he needs to talk to more Americans, because a great number of them are concerned about the dramatic overreach of our government in recent times,” Paul senior advisor Doug Stafford told the Washington Times.

Stafford also used the lyrics of Christie favorite Bruce Springsteen to respond to the comments. “In the words of the governor’s favorite lyricist, ‘You know that flag flying over the courthouse? Means certain things are set in stone: Who we are, what we’ll do and what we won’t.’”
