The sun will make a cameo appearance and temperatures will be warmer than Tuesday, but Wednesday's cloud cover will be pretty thick along the Jersey Shore.

Here are your weather headlines for Wednesday, October 12, 2016...

High Pressure Shifts East

So far, this week has featured dormant autumnal weather, thanks to a large area of high pressure that has dominated our atmosphere. As that area of high pressure shifts east, a change in the winds will enact changes to our skies.

Winds on Wednesday will be very light, only 5 to 10 mph. But it's the wind direction that's important to the forecast - southeasterly. (Remember, we always report the direction wind comes from.) That wind coming off the ocean will push slightly more humid air over New Jersey, not just at the surface but throughout the atmosphere.

The end result? Clouds will increase today, and may become especially thick and grey along the coast. I think we'll ultimately stay dry, with pleasant high temperatures in the upper 60s to maybe 70 degrees.

Approaching Front

More changes are ahead for Thursday, as a cold front approaches New Jersey from the northwest. Cold fronts usually spell rain, and this one is no different. But any rainfall on Thursday will be limited to showers and sprinkles, and probably limited to North Jersey geographically. Don't expect much rain, if any at all.

High temperatures on Thursday will poke into the lower 70s. But this relative warmth will be temporary.

You'll feel the effects of the aforementioned cold front on Friday. As our new cooler, drier air mass arrives, a brisk wind is expected from Thursday night through at least Friday morning - gusting to about 30 mph. Skies will quickly turn sunny Friday, but high temperatures will be stuck in the lower 60s at best.

Pretty Perfect Fall Weekend

Yes, our drought situation continues. And yes, we really need rain. But put those concerns aside, and we have a delightful fall weekend ahead.

Saturday will start out chilly, with most morning low temperatures close to 40 degrees. I wouldn't rule out a frost or even a freeze in the northern third of the state. Saturday afternoon will be mostly sunny and dry, but temperatures will remain below normal with highs in the lower 60s.

Sunday will warm to the mid to upper 60s, again with mostly sunny skies. Nothing much to complain about there.

Our warming trend looks to continue into early next week, with 70s in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday. While there could be a few showers too, any rainfall looks mostly insignificant.
