Oravcová went into the ocean off Point Pleasant Beach with Thomas Kadlec, 23, also from Slovakia. Kadlec made it out of the rough water and notified a worker on the boardwalk that Oravcová was still in the water. After an all-day mission that was started by Point Pleasant Beach Police, the Coast Guard officially suspended its search on Sunday night.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time. Suspending a search is always a difficult decision and it’s something we don’t take lightly," Capt. Scott Anderson, Commander of Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay, said in a statement.

The State Police Marine Unit, the Fire Company and First Aid of Pt. Pleasant Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking Fire Companies, dive teams from Pt. Pleasant Beach, Pt. Pleasant, Brick, Brielle and Manasquan, as well as police officers from Bay Head and Mantoloking, also joined in the search.

Waves were breaking at 4 to 6 feet all weekend, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a high risk for rip currents alert, warning all swimmers to stay out of the ocean.

"Such conditions only happen a few times a year along the Jersey Shore," Townsquare New Jersey Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow said.

Oravcová worked at the Sweet Shop on the boardwalk at Jenkinson's, according to J-1 Visa program run by the U.S. State Department in which foreign students are recruited for season work. They have also been in touch with her family in Slovakia, a European country bordered by Poland, Hungary, Austria, Czechia, and Ukraine. Jenkinson's has not yet returned a message.

Grief counselors are available for employees.

Friend Jessica Alongi, in a Facebook post, described Oravcová as "a go-getter, extremely hard-working, and absolute sweetest, happy-go-lucky girl I've ever had the pleasure to meet."

Point Pleasant Beach Police said they had reported Oravcová to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a missing person.
