Crash Injures EHT Police Officer, Driver Charged with DWI
An Egg Harbor Township police officer was injured in a crash late Thursday night and one person is now facing DWI charges.
According to a press release, around 11:30 Thursday night an EHT police car was stopped in the painted median on Fire Road near the Days Hotel when a car being driven by 55-year-old Joanne Helfrich of EHT drifted into the median and struck the passenger side of the officer's car.
The officer was treated at the scene and taken to Shore Medical Center with a minor head injury. Helfrich was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody after a brief struggle with officers. Helfrich was charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, and assault by auto and released on a summons.
Traffic on Mill Road was detoured for approximately an hour while the crash was cleared.
