One person was killed and another seriously injured in Bayville after being struck by a pizza deliveryman who police say was counting change.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Denise Iesals, 49, of Bayville and Nelson Negron Jr., 51, of Little Egg Harbor were struck as they crossed Route 9 in the crosswalk from Frededick Drive in front of the Shop Rite supermarket in the Bayville section of Beachwood around 9 p.m. on Saturday night.

The pair was struck by Alexander Aguilar, 22, of Bayville as he was returning from a delivery for Domino's Pizza. Aguilar told police he was counting change from the tip he received from his last delivery and saw Iesals as he looked up and could not avoid hitting her. Aguilar became aware he also struck Negron when he got out of his 2009 Hyundai Sonata and saw both lying in the road.

The Prosecutor's Office said Iesals died at the scene while Negron was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and was in critical condition as of Sunday morning.

A check of Aguilar's cell phone for use before the accident with his consent showed he had not been using the phone. Aguilar was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for a blood test. No charges have yet been brought pending further investigation and the blood test results.

Route 9 was closed for several hours on Saturday night for an investigation and clean up of the incident.
