The combination of low humidity and high pressure will contribute to a gorgeous stretch of summer weather, with high temperatures in the mid 80s through the upcoming weekend.

More often than not, this time of year features weather described as "the dog days of summer" - a prolonged stretch of hot, humid, sunny weather with no break in sight. This week's forecast is certainly consistent... but with near-normal temperatures, low humidity, and abundant sunshine, we'll be lucky to enjoy some really nice summer days and nights.

If you enjoyed Wednesday's weather, you'll probably like Thursday too. We've been tracking some clouds pushing across central and southern New Jersey this morning. And temperatures are comfortable, mostly in the lower 60s with a few cool 50s dotted across the state. Blue skies and sunshine should dominate our sky this afternoon, helping us to warm into the seasonable mid 80s for the second day in a row. As the sea breeze picks up today, the Jersey Shore will likely be a bit cooler in the 70s today. All around, there's really nothing to complain about weatherwise today.

High pressure and low humidity continues for Friday and Saturday too. So we'll again see comfortable mornings and evenings, with warm afternoons. A few extra clouds will likely cross the Garden State on Saturday, so we'll call it partly sunny instead of mostly sunny. No big deal at all - the start of the weekend still looks fantastic.

Sunday, however, will bring a few changes to the forecast. First, an increase in humidity will mean a return to "sticky" weather by Sunday afternoon. While it won't be as "steamy" or "tropical" or "oppressive" as the extreme heat from earlier this week, the increase in mugginess will be noticeable. Second, temperatures will bump up slightly, possibly approaching 90° in South Jersey. And third, an approaching front will lead to the chance for showers and thunderstorms.

I'm a bit dismayed at the evolution of this morning's forecast models, showing a wetter solution all-day Sunday. I'm not ready to disappoint summer weekend fans just yet - I think the best chance for rain on Sunday will be limited to the late afternoon and evening hours. And while there could be a stronger storm or downpour popping up in Sunday's warm, humid atmosphere, the rain coverage does not look widespread or all that heavy. The bottom line... Confidence is high that Saturday will be a beautiful, warm summer day... Sunday should be pretty nice too, but there could be a few dollops of rain along the way.

Back to work next week, we're back to hot and humid weather with highs near 90°, which could persist through the end of the month.
