It's now official.

The Eagles have decided to cut ties with wide receiver DeSean Jackson.  The Newark Star-Ledger reports DeSean Jackson's off-field behavior, particularly his connection to a Los Angeles street gang, is the Eagles' chief concern and main reason they released him today.

Jackson has become close with a man named Theron Shakir, a member of the Crips and one of two men charged in the murder of a 14-year-old rival gang member. The Eagles simply don't want to wake up to an Aaron Hernandez situation one morning.

The writing was on the way for Jackson, Eagles coach Chip Kelly remained noncommittal on Jackson's future in Philadelphia at the league meetings Wednesday - he had a chance to clear the air and remained very vague.

The Eagles will carry $6 million in dead money after releasing Jackson.  The moves saves them $6.75 million in cap space for 2014.
