A 25-year-old man from Egg Harbor Township is facing over a dozen charges after police say he drove recklessly and eluded police with a 5-year-old in his car.

Sunday afternoon around 3:00, an Egg Harbor Township police officer observed two vehicles driving recklessly, possibly racing, eastbound on the Black Horse Pike. According to police, both vehicles turned onto Uibel Avenue and, while stopped at a red light, one vehicle began spinning and smoking its tires. The officer attempted to stop that vehicle but the driver pulled into Atlantic Gardens, accelerated, and made quick turns in an effort to elude the officer. The vehicle eventually stopped and the driver, 25-year-old Bryan Amato of Egg Harbor Township, was taken into custody. At the scene of the traffic stop, police discovered a 5-year-old child was in the vehicle.

Amato was charged with eluding, child endangerment, and 11 motor vehicle charges, and taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
