EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - Investigations of a series of car burglaries, thefts, and other crimes within the past month throughout Atlantic County lead to an Egg Harbor Township 18-year-old and three juveniles.

Darnell Lewis, 18, and one juvenile, are charged with possession of a semi-automatic handgun and a high-powered rifle that were reported stolen from a vehicle in Hamilton Township in late September, according to Egg Harbor Township police, who conducted the arrests Tuesday and Wednesday.

The three juveniles, collectively, face charges connected to two stolen vehicles. Police believe that the teens were foraging for unlocked cars during night hours. Unlocked cars were looted for loose change, electronic equipment, and other valuables, police said.

Authorities trace the group to at least two vehicles, unlocked, with ignition keys inside, that were stolen. There have been 148 reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles in Egg Harbor Township so far in 2017, police said.

Anyone possessing information about these incidents, or possibly related ones, should call Egg Harbor Township PD's Detective Bureau at (609) 927-4051.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
