Axl, the well- known Egg Harbor Township Police K-9 dog has died, according to EHT's Police Facebook page.

One of four EHT K-9 dogs, Axl was known for his community and school demonstrations, often appearing with partner Officer Kenneth Marchelle to demonstrate his K-9 policing skills.

Those skills served Axl well over the years as he responded to 118 alarm calls and 65 back-up assists and arrest calls, and helped in 5 positive narcotics searches, according to police records.

This post on the Egg Harbor Township Police Facebook page memorialized Axl -

"It is with great sadness that the Egg Harbor Township Police Department announces the passing of K-9 Axl. Axl, was a 10 year old Belgium Malinois, who suffered a degenerative bone disease which led to his passing. Axl served the department and community with distinction alongside his partner Officer Kenneth Marchelle. Axl will be greatly missed by many."
