A fire at an apartment complex is Mays Landing just before 9AM this morning resulted in significant damage, but no reported injuries.

According to a news release from the Hamilton Township Police Department, police and fire crews were called to the Sandpiper Apartments on Harding Highway for a structure fire.

Upon arrival the initial responding units encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a first floor apartment.  Officers entered the building to evacuate residents as the flames quickly spread and engulfed the first floor and a second floor apartment.  Arriving firefighters entered the building and quickly attacked the fire which prohibited the further spread of the flames.  Six additional apartment units suffered smoke damage.

The fires remains under investigation.
