Fire Destroys Warehouse in Hammonton
HAMMONTON — Fire tore through a South Jersey warehouse and several tractor trailers on Thursday night.
A number of fire companies helped put out the multi-alarm fire at the 40,000-square foot Buffalo Farms Freezer and Cold Storage facility, with 14 loading docks, on Pine Road in Hammonton late Thursday night. At least one worker was treated for smoke inhalation.
Atlantic County Deputy Fire Coordinator Bill Collins told the Courier-Post that the county’s water tanker task force was brought in because of the size of the building, and that two people may have been rescued from the flames by the first arriving units.
According to its website, Buffalo Farms is a third-generation producer, grower, shipper, and importer operated by the Mortellite family in Hammonton, a town which calls itself the “blueberry capital of the world” with about 100 farms located there.
The fire remains under investigation.
