Friends of former Miss New Jersey Cara McCollum have taken to Facebook to seek prayers as she continues her recovery from a serious car accident.

"She is in critical condition at a Level 1 Trauma Center in New Jersey, and the situation couldn’t be more serious." a post on the page Prayers for Cara says. "Cara is a strong, determined young woman, but her life is in God’s hands right now. We’re praying for a miracle, because that’s what it will take for Cara to come back to us. We’re asking you to do the same."

New Jersey State Police said McCollum, 24, of Margate was seriously injured when her Ford Mustang ran off of Route 55 in Pittsgrove Township Monday night and hit several trees causing the car's airbags to deploy. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to police.

Prayers are coming from near and far. The Junior Auxiliary of Forrest City, Ark. -- McCollum's hometown -- posted on the Prayers for Cara Facebook page that it hosted a Community Prayer Time in honor of her Friday night.

Miss New Jersey 1995 Dena Blizzard posted her own message of support and request for prayers for McCollum on her Facebook page calling her a "Jersey strong" sister.

"Cara is a shining example of what I love about the Miss America System. She's smart, driven and has brought so much joy to everyone she's met....and I know she will continue to do so with the support of her family and extended 'Miss New Jersey/Miss America' Family," Blizzard, also known as the comedian  One Funny Mother, wrote.

McCollum's family continues to ask that Cooper University Hospital not provide updates on her condition. Philly.com reports close friends and family have maintained a round-the-clock vigil for McCollum, including boyfriend Keith Jones, an NBC 10 anchor.

"I haven't left her bedside since she arrived at the hospital," Jones wrote on his Facebook page, adding that their puppy Charlie misses her. "We're inseparable. One year and 8-months of pure, absolute love and bliss."

Originally from Forrest City, Ark., McCollum served as Miss New Jersey 2013 and graduated from Princeton in 2015. She is an anchor on the South Jersey-based SNJ Today news website.
