WPG Health Update: Get Hip – New Advancements in Hip Surgery
Hip pain is a common complaint that can be cause by a variety of issues. The location of the pain can offer valuable insight in the underlying cause. Pain on the outside of your hip, upper thigh or outer buttock is usually caused by problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues that surround your hip joint. Problems within the hip joint itself tend to result in pain on the inside of your hip or your groin.
Hip pain can sometimes be caused by diseases and conditions in other areas of your body, such as your lower back. This type of pain is called referred pain.
Dr. Alvin Ong, of the Rothman Institute in Egg Harbor Township, says not all hip pain requires surgery, but when surgery is needed, the latest techniques and medical technology can make recovery much easier. He talks with Robin Stoloff.
