Guadagno Announcing Her Candidacy for Governor Tuesday
KEANSBURG — Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno is making it official, announcing Tuesday she'll run for governor.
She is making the announcement at the La Playa restaurant, a Mexican restaurant on the Keansburg water, at 11 a.m.
A video released by her campaign highlights Guadagno's accessibility and offers a preview of her campaign platform, including lowering taxes and improving the state's business climate.
The former Monmouth County Sheriff is the state's first lieutenant governor, and also serves as the secretary of state. She has supported Gov. Chris Christie in most of his positions but separated with him over the recent increase in the gas tax and the related ballot question No. 2.
Keansburg Borough on its Facebook page said it was honored to host her announcement.
"We welcome, as a neutral community, the same opportunity from every person seeking the highest office in the state," read the statement.
Guadagno joins Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, Nutley Township Commissioner Steve Rogers and Ocean County businessman Joseph Rudy Rullo in the Republican race. Medford mayor Randy Brown has said he will not run while comedian Joe Piscopo, who lives in Lebanon, has not made a decision.
