Hamilton Township Police Responding to a Threat

Earlier today, Hamilton Township Police responded to a threat for the area around Unami Boulevard in Mays Landing. Students and staff at nearby schools are safe; the Atlantic County Courthouse was evacuated.

Updated 2:26 PM -- Please be advised that the Township of Hamilton Police Department are continuing to act on information they received concerning the Hess School. Police have also responded to the Shaner School after receiving additional information. All students and staff are safe. Students from Hess School have been evacuated to the William Davies Middle School and will be dismissed from there. Shaner students are currently being evacuated to the St. Vincent School and will be dismissed from that location.

Updated 2:00 PM -- Hess students were taken to Davies Middle School; parents can pick-up their children after 2:30 at Davies, according to The Press of Atlantic City.

Updated 1:04 PM -- According to Lynda Cohen at The Press of Atlantic City, police are at the Hess Educational Complex, which is near Unami Boulevard, and the Atlantic County Courthouse, which is also off of that street. Both of those facilities have been evacuated as a precaution. The nearby Atlantic County Institute of Technology is on lockdown.

Updated 12:28 PM -- The Hamilton Township Police Department says, "all students and staff [at Hess School] are safe. However, no one is permitted inside the building until the situation has been resolved. Afternoon Preschool session is cancelled for today."

Sheriff Frank Balles tells the Press, "The threat was made for Unami Boulevard and mentioned a specific judge."

If possible, avoid the areas around Babcock Road and Atlantic Avenues in Mays Landing due to a heavy police presence.
