A 9-year-old Hammonton boy was struck and killed by a car near his home Thursday.

According to NJ.com, Christopher Sacco was struck by a car in the road in front of his home, when he went outside to retrieve mail. The driver did stop following the accident, which remains under investigation.

Hammonton Police Department posted the following message on their Facebook page Thursday: "The Town of Hammonton lost an amazing young boy last night. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the many people whose lives were touched by Chris."

A similar message was posted on the Mullica Township Police Department page:

In one day, a GoFundMe page had already raised over $19,000 of a $20,000 goal, and was no longer taking donations.

The family of Christopher, who played baseball, has now asked that donations in memory of the boy be made to one of these donations:
