While Sunday marked the greatest day in New Jersey racing history and a celebration of Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah, Gov. Chris Christie did not receive quite the same love.

Following American Pharoah's thrilling Haskell victory, a record crowd of just under 61,000 fans reached a fever pitch.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Jersey Shore racing fans and Monmouth Park.

But, the excitement and cheers came to a screeching halt when Christie appeared in the Winner's Circle to present the Haskell trophy.

The capacity crowd turned visceral and jeered the governor, who peeled off the campaign trail to participate in the race festivities.

The booing grew in intensity when Christie's name was mentioned during the trophy presentation.

Why the boo birds?

That answer spans many different issues from Christie's support of Atlantic City over Jersey horse racing to his increasing amount of time out of the Garden State to his falling approval ratings.

The fans were pretty unanimous in voicing their displeasure for Christie.

The same was not true, however, for Bill Murray.

Social media exploded throughout the afternoon with sightings of the legendary comedian, who was placing bets, milling around the facility, and talking and taking selfies with fans.

If American Pharoah won the day, Murray definitely placed.

Murray was given the green light to issue the 'riders up' call before the $1.75 million race.

"Gentlemen: We're burning daylight!" Murray said. "Riders up!"

Unlike Christie, Murray could do no wrong for the Monmouth Park faithful.

A tale of two afternoons for the two men in the midst of a Jersey Shore celebration.
