How to Beat the Negatives
We all have those days when we just can’t seem to shake the negatives. We could be having a great day and all it takes is one bad thing to change our whole mood.
Whether it be a coffee spill, running late, or losing our car keys. It always seems like once that one thing goes wrong, everything else goes bad and we become a Debbie Downer or Negative Ned.
As my mom used to say, "you get mad you get glad again," or to quote president Lincoln, "We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses." Basically, they are saying the same thing - we can often rise above negative thinking.
However, it is important that we don’t harp on those negatives, and focus on the positives! Instead of trying to avoid the negative moments let’s try to beat them. Here's the top five ways to beat these negatives.
Rethink the situation. If something negative happens, don’t react so quickly. It is important to pay attention to your emotions and talk yourself through the situation.
When something overwhelming happens or puts a damper on your day, making yourself busy always helps. Working on a job task or even some exercise can help to beat the negative moments. Get your mind busy!
Go back and think. Check in with yourself. It is so easy to let the small negative moments win but being aware of your feelings changes everything. Understand why you are feeling the way you are.
Once you are in control of your emotions, try to manage them. This will help your mindset to think positive and to diminish the negatives. Choose a method to help train your mind to think more upbeat. It can be taking deep breaths at a certain time of the day or even forcing yourself to think just one positive thought a day.
After experiencing these mood changing situations, check in with yourself. Everyone has a bad day, but it is important to make sure there isn’t a bigger issue going on.
