According to Wikipedia, there are numerous legends when it comes to the origins of the pretzel. One scenario has the the first pretzel dating back to 610 AD made by an Italian monk, who rewarded children with a pretzel for saying their prayers. The pretzel also dates back to the 12th century in Germany as the pretzel was used as an emblem for bakers.

Flash forward to 2017 for National Pretzel Day, which recognizes and celebrates this tasty treat. Here's where you can score a deal and a FREE pretzel today:

Philly Pretzel Factory: You can get one free pretzel per customer. No purchase necessary. Locations include Somers Point, Egg Harbor Township, Mays Landing, Millville, and Ocean City.

Auntie Anne's:  You can get a freshly baked pretzel for free when you buy any pretzel item at Auntie Anne's April 26th-30th. You will need to download their coupon on their website. Locations include the Hamilton Mall, the Pier at Caesars, and the Atlantic Rest Area on the Garden State Parkway.
