Teachers have one of the toughest jobs on the planet. Sure, most aren't risking life and limb on a daily basis, but they are tasked with making sure that the future of the world is in good hands.

While teaching is all about helping kids learn about themselves and the world around them, one teacher in Colorado recently discovered that it's teachers that sometimes end up learning a thing or two.

some notes are heartbreaking like the first #iwishmyteacherknew tweet which read, ‘I wish my teacher knew I don’t have pencils at home to do my homework.’

Kyle Schwartz is a third-grade teacher at a Denver elementary school. She decided to try to get to know her students better by giving them a writing assignment called "I wish my teacher knew. She then posted some of the notes on her twitter account.

The majority of Schwartz's students are from low-income families, but it's the truths that they wanted her to know that have taken over the internet. Schwatz told reporters, “some notes are heartbreaking like the first #iwishmyteacherknew tweet which read, ‘I wish my teacher knew I don’t have pencils at home to do my homework.’ I care deeply about each and every one of my students and I don’t want any of them to have to suffer the consequences of living in poverty, which is my main motivation for teaching.”

At the end of the day, #IWishMyTeacherKnew is a poignant look at the minds of children across the country. Sometimes, as adults, we forget that kids pick up on very adult things. They also have very real thoughts about those things.
