ISIS Magazine Says Macy’s Parade is ‘Excellent Target’
NEW YORK CITY -- While millions prepare to watch the annual tradition of balloons, floats and performances that is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the New York Police Department says it is ensuring those who will be there in person that they will be kept safe, even as the Islamic State made reference to the holiday event in a propaganda magazine.
The Asbury Park Press reported that Rumiyah, an English-language publication by the terrorist group, called the Macy's parade an "excellent target" in its Nov. 11 issue.
NYPD officials have been quick to respond.
John Miller, NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism, said precautionary security measures have already been put in place, according to the report, and that paradegoers should not alter their plans based on the ISIS literature, according to the report.
Police Commissioner James O'Neill, meanwhile, is calling the parade the safest place to be in the entire city, the report said.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, as always, will be held in Manhattan on Thanksgiving morning, which is next Thursday, Nov. 24.
