With the cold weather settling in and the holidays get closer and closer, many people reminisce about the warmer days of summer. Sitting next to a roaring fire with hot cocoa and fuzzy socks we can't help but miss the warm sun on our skin as we sat next to the salty sea. So, why not bring a little bit of the seashore to your holiday decor this year?

Instead of going out and buying another ornament for your tree, try out a fun DIY with seashells that you collected over the summer, or a little bit of sand from your favorite beach! Here's two of our favorites:

  • 1

    Beach in a Ball

    What you'll need:

    -Clear Ornament Ball and Hook

-Sand (if possible from your favorite beach)

    -Small Shells

-Thin print marker (if you want to write the beach/year on the ball)

    What you do:

With a folded piece of paper, sand funnel or a spoon, dump sand into the clear ornament ball until it is filled halfway or less. Add sea shells small enough to fit through the ornament's opening. Place the top/hook onto the ornament. To ensure it won't fall off, secure the top with some glue. You can write the beach the sand came from or the year on the ball with the marker, or leave it plain. It's up to you!

    Santa Shells

    What you'll need:

    -Sea Shells

    -Paint

    -Other craft supplies if wanted

    What you do:

This one is pretty simple: paint the shell however you'd like. Maybe your toddler wants to try every color on it or your crafty pre-teen wants to paint a beach scene on a clam shell. You can also add feathers, glitter, sequins etc. to glam up your ornament.

If your shells have a hole in them already, loop a hook through there. If they do not, you can either create your own hole or hot glue the hook to the back of the shell.
