The funeral for the 89-year-old is planned for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Park Avenue Synagogue in Manhattan. The arrangements are being made by the Riverside Memorial Chapel.

Vice President Joe Biden will lead mourners. Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Lautenberg's family will also deliver eulogies.

At a color guard ceremony, his casket will be transferred Wednesday afternoon to an Amtrak train at the Frank Lautenberg Rail Station in Secaucus en route to Washington.

The casket will arrive at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday and lie in repose in the Senate chamber.

Lautenberg was the last World War II veteran serving in the Senate. He will be buried Friday at Arlington National Cemetery.

Lautenberg died early Monday at a New York hospital after suffering complications from viral pneumonia.

He lived in Cliffside Park, is survived by his wife, Bonnie, and four children from his first marriage, which ended in divorce in 1988.
