A stolen cell phone turned into a messy situation at a motel on the White Horse Pike in Galloway Township over the weekend.

A man was robbed at the Red Carpet Inn early Saturday and a police officer was injured during the arrest of the suspect, according to police.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that police were called to the motel about 4am Saturday with reports of a strong-arm robbery in the parking lot.

A Salem County man reported having his cell phone forcibly stolen by another guest at the motel.

The victim gave police a description of the suspect as well as the room where he may have been staying, police said.

Police said they found the suspect, James J Hastings Jr., 23, of Lodi, Bergen County, who still had the victim’s phone.

The suspect refused to cooperate with police or to return the phone. While the man was resisting arrest, one police officer was injured and taken to AtlantiCare's Mainland Campus for treatment.

Hastings is being held in Atlantic County jail on $75,000 bail.
