It took several dozen firefighters two hours to bring the blaze at the diner on Route 38  near Route 73 under control late Sunday night according to WCAU TV, which reports heavy damage to the dining room. "I pulled up, they had heavy fire already coming through the roof of the rear of the building and a lot of smoke," Maple Shade Township Fire Department Chief Elwood Severns told the television station.

Route 38 was closed in both direction near the diner as firefighters fought the fire. There are no reports of injuries. The fire remains under investigation.

The owners of the restaurant posted a message on their Facebook page. "Words cannot express the amount of gratitude we feel toward you & your years of patronage & loyalty. We have shared many good times & memories & we hope to be back soon," read the message signed by the The Photiou & Romanos Families.

Customers offered messages of support on the post.  "The Golden Dawn was my parent's favorite meeting place for years. Looking forward to you reopening in the future," posted Dave Dietsch. Bob Doohaluk wrote, "I hope you are able to rebuild and come back better than ever!" Some also offered help with the paperwork involved after the fire.
