Friday afternoon, Hamilton Township Police responded to Consumer Square Shopping Center in Mays Landing in front of Babies-R-Us for an infant locked inside of a vehicle.

A witness observed an unattended infant locked in the rear of a vehicle with the windows rolled up and the vehicle off. Upon arrival the infant was observed in severe distress from the heat and officers forced entry into the vehicle by breaking the window. The one month old infant was removed and medical aid was immediately administered until EMS personnel arrived.

Egg Harbor Township Rescue and AtlantiCare Medics transported the infant to Atlantic City Medical Center in serious condition. The mother returned to the vehicle later and was taken into custody. She was identified as 29-year-old Sana Fatima of Mays Landing. She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $15,000 full cash bail.
