Sears has announced plans to close 46 more stores across the country, including their location in Mays Landing at Hamilton Mall.

In a press release posted by WCVB-TV, Sears said,

As part of our ongoing efforts to streamline Sears Holdings’ operations, strengthen our capital position and focus on our best stores, this week the company informed associates at 46 unprofitable stores that we will be closing these stores in November 2018. We continue to evaluate our network of stores, which is a critical component to our integrated retail transformation, and will make further adjustments as needed.

Liquidation sales will begin as early as next week.

Sears has been a part of the South Jersey retail scene for decades. Its first store in the area was located where Boscov's currently sits at the old Shore Mall. That store moved to its current location at Hamilton Mall when that shopping center opened in 1987.

With the closing of the Sears at Hamilton Mall, only one Sears will remain open in South Jersey at Deptford Mall. Two other Sears stores, one in Vineland and another at the Ocean County Mall, closed within the past several months.
