Mosquito Spraying in EHT – When, Where & How to Keep Your Family Safe

This may seem like a strange word of caution from a guy who used to ride his bike behind the trucks spraying for mosquitoes back in the day, but, here goes.

Atlantic County is spraying for mosquitoes this week in Egg Harbor Township. The spraying is considered safe and of little risk to residents, but it wouldn't hurt to know when it's going to happen and to take a few precautions.

Here is the spraying information, courtesy of Linda Gilmore, the Public Information Officer for Atlantic County.

'The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control has scheduled a ground spray for portions of the John F. Gaffney Green Tree Golf Course on Route 559 in Egg Harbor Township in its ongoing effort to control adult mosquitoes and reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illness.

The ground spray application will take place, weather permitting, between 5:30 AM and 7 AM on Thursday, June 15 and Friday, June 16, using Scourge, the trade name for resmethrin, applied as an ultra low volume aerosol.

The Environmental Protection Agency does not require people to relocate or take special precautions during mosquito control spraying. The public may choose to avoid or minimize exposure by staying indoors during application; keeping windows shut; window fans and air conditioning off or set to circulate indoor air; keeping children’s toys indoors; keeping pets and their food, water dishes and toys indoors.

Mosquito Control officials remind residents of the importance of removing standing water from their properties and cleaning their gutters to eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds.
