Narcan Program Expands South [AUDIO/VIDEO]
As New Jersey's heroin epidemic continues to expand, several South Jersey counties are preparing to implement their own version of the Narcan pilot program.
t's expected by next week Gov. Chris Christie will be authorizing first responders in the South Jersey counties to carry Nalaxon (brand name Narcan), a drug that can reverse opioid overdoses.
"We ordered the Narcan, we have the Narcan in house, and we're ready to distribute it as soon as we get the go-ahead," said Cape May County prosecutor Robert Taylor.
Ocean County was the first county to train first responders to administer Narcan, while Monmouth County equipped police earlier this month.
Taylor said he has worked closely with Ocean County prosecutor Joseph Coronato and will be following a similar operating procedure.
"I'm not going to reinvent the wheel, they have good protocol and a good program there," Taylor said.
