New Jersey’s Warm Weather Continues, But Not For Long
Widespread high temperatures in the 70s are expected for Wednesday, but an end to the above-normal temperatures and a little bit of rain are in the forecast.
Here are your weather headlines for Wednesday, October 21, 2015...
Warm for Now
Frankly, today's weather looks absolutely gorgeous. Mostly to partly sunny skies and light south-southwest winds will help temperatures warm into the lower to mid 70s across the Garden State. That will be a couple of degrees warmer than Tuesday, and about 10 degrees above normal for late October.
There are some showers passing just north of New Jersey today. I'm a bit concerned that a little spot of rain or some extra clouds may creep into Sussex County today... But the vast majority of New Jersey will stay dry today, with plenty of blue skies.
We will squeeze out one more warm, pleasant day on Thursday, with highs bumping into the mid 70s. A stiff breeze will pick up during the day, gusting to about 20 mph. Unfortunately, we will cap this streak of warm, dry weather to just three days, as another autumn cool down is coming...
Transition to Cooler Weather
A front will push through New Jersey Thursday night. As we have seen several times in recent weeks, this front looks moisture-starved. So any rain that falls Thursday evening through early Monday morning should stay light. (Forecast rainfall totals are all less than a tenth of an inch.)
The more important impact of this front will be significantly cooler temperatures by Friday. Afternoon highs will barely make it to about 60 degrees - just below normal for this time of year. While we should see plenty of sunshine Friday afternoon, it will be counteracted by a stiff breeze out of the north, at about 20 mph. Not a terrible day, but you will need to have the jacket handy.
On Saturday morning, widespread temperatures in the 30s are expected, so another widespread frost/freeze is likely. Saturday's highs will be similar to Friday's, in the upper 50s to lower 60s. While winds will be lighter on Saturday, increasing clouds could make for a somewhat grey afternoon.
Early Next Week
Warmer air will return on Sunday, but not without a chance for a few showers. Once again, any rainfall is expected to be on the light side. Highs on Sunday will be back in the upper 60s to about 70 degrees. If we get a few breaks of sun in between the clouds and the raindrops, it will be a decent end to the weekend.
Another cold front sweeps across New Jersey Sunday night, bringing an end to this one-day warming trend. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will once again be stuck within a few degrees of 60°. In yesterday's blog post, I referenced the possibility that this front stalls (or gets "stuck") just south of New Jersey. The latest models have moved away from this solution, so the current forecast for early next week calls for dry weather and at least a little bit of sunshine.
