A bill that would let registered medical marijuana users in New Jersey obtain pot legally in other states faces an uncertain future.

The Assembly passed the bill 50-23 with 7 abstentions on Thursday. The Senate has yet to pass the measure and Gov. Chris Christie has said he opposes any expansion of the state's medical marijuana law.

Advocates say patients who need a certain strain and form of marijuana would be able to get it under the measure.

They cite a toddler with a debilitating form of epilepsy whose parents believe she would be helped by edible marijuana with a certain mix of chemicals. That form is not available in New Jersey, where there are now three dispensaries.
