NJ Gas Tax Hike — What to Expect

New Jersey is about to go from the second lowest gas taxes in the country to the sixth highest. Here's what you can expect starting November 1.

It's long been a pleasure for native and out-of-state motorists to fill up in the Garden State because of our traditionally low gas costs. But the state has run out of money to fund transportation projects, which lead Governor Chris Christie and the state's legislature to approve a hike in gas taxes -- the first in almost 28 years, 6abc.com reports.

What that means for you:

• November 1st, the gas tax will increase from 14.5 cents per gallon to 37.5 cents.

Why it's not all bad:

• New Jersey will still have a $0.13 tax advantage over our friends in Pennsylvania and a 5 to 10-cents over New York.
• We still don't have to pump our own gas.
