Four Republicans are running in a primary for New Jersey's 1st Congressional District, but none of them submitted papers to run in a special election to fill the seat from November through January.

Petitions were due Monday for both the regular election for a two-year term starting in January and the special election to complete the term of Rep. Rob Andrews, who resigned earlier this year.

Both elections in the district in Camden and Gloucester Counties have primaries in June and general balloting in November.

Keith Walker, spokesman for Republican candidate Garry Cobb, says he was unaware of the requirements for separate petitions for the special election and is looking into whether proper notice was given.

Another candidate, Lee Lucas, says he wasn't aware of the special election until Friday.
