An NJ Transit bus struck and killed a retired teacher in Camden on Sunday afternoon.

6 ABC reports the pedestrian was 64-year-old Shambra Rollins, a former special needs teacher who had recently retired after 25 years working in the Camden schools.

She was hit at the corner of Broadway and Royden crossing the street to catch the #401 bus that would take her to a church service in Philadelphia. Her son-in-law Keith Clark said, "She was coming across the street to catch the bus. She waved at the driver, the driver looked like she was coming to a full stop but she pushed the gas and ran right over her," said Clark.

Another witness says the driver upon realizing what happened cried and fell to her knees.

The Camden County Police Department is leading the investigation.
